Message from Edward Gordon about "6 A.M.": "The house featured in the painting is a 1750 cape in Cape Neddick, Maine. The large old fireplace is what got my attention. I decided to move the house to the edge of the wetlands that are a feature of much of the Maine coast. The time of day was selected to give me an excuse to do a colorful sky. When trying to decide what to put over the fireplace, I came across Albert Bierstadt's "Looking Down Yosemite Valley". I couldn't help but notice the similarities with the sky and rocks I was painting out the windows of the old house. About 80% of the Bierstadt piece is included. The early morning smoldering fire seemed to complete the scene." - E.G. |
