Work in Progress Animation"Memorial Day" by Edward GordonEver since painting "Wind from the Sea", I have been wanting to do another painting that featured billowing curtains. "Approaching Storm" had billowing curtains, but they were only a part of that painting, and not the focus. I decided to hang an American flag from our porch, as many do here in Vermont. Memorial Day seemed the appropriate day to begin. I love looking out the front room window and seeing our flag waving there. In putting together the composition for "Memorial Day", I decided to use the front room of our home for the interior scene. I made one large window out of two smaller windows that look out onto the porch. The painting that I added to the wall is by James Peale, called Fruit Still Life, done in 1894. The Chinese urn and round rug add interest to the composition. The rug took a month. Then at the end I decided the curtains were too calm. So, I changed the curtains. Joa provided help, through her secret powers, by causing the curtains to billow on command as you can see in the photo below! - E.G.
